Why WASMA?

Why we are here, how we help..

Who Are We, What Do We Do, Why Do We Do It?

WASMA is a group of ordinary people who, in one way or another, have been working to improve the modified vehicle scene in Western Australia over a long time in many various ways.

The work we have been doing is purely for the love of the cars and the culture.

This group decided to form a peak body for Street Machines to join forces, coordinate their efforts, and create a unified body that the authorities can contact and liaise with regarding all things Street Machining. Through the membership of clubs, we aim to give Street Machiners a strong and united voice.

Restorers have the CMC, and Rodders have the ASRF. These peak bodies have existed and operated for many years, achieving a lot to help their members enjoy their cars. WASMA is the Street Machiners' version of these bodies.

What Are We Working on Right Now?

1. Concessional Licensing: The concept of this has been announced by the Government and is still being worked on by the DoT. An exact implementation date has not yet been set, but it is expected to happen in the first half of 2021.

2. Vehicle Modifications in WA: In WA, modifying a vehicle or getting one that has already been done interstate can be a minefield. We have a team of people working with various government departments to revise how modified vehicles are assessed in relation to being allowed on public roads. This work covers many areas and is quite challenging. Recognition of interstate and local engineers’ sign-offs and the abolition of the “180kw/ton” rule are just a couple of examples of the work being done.
